Issue #49

Editor's Message [by Richard Smith]

So lots of things are happening around the Outpost and if you've been trying to enjoy the sunshine you may have missed a few really big things. First off, Our very own Cliftonian and Hampus tied the knot recently becoming Jerry and Elizabeth Fredriksson. In doing so they've joined a select group of couples aboard the Outpost who have met, become smitten, and married because of their coming around and chatting. I'm sure I can speak for the entire Outpost when I say that we hope you have a wonderful life together. Personally, I can say they are both dear friends of mine who deserve all the love and happiness that the world has to offer. Congratulations to you both *raises glass*

Second on that list of big stuff coming, we have the Outpost 10F Union in Philadelphia coming up in just a few weeks. If you are feeling adventurous, there is still time for you to get involved. I am going and can't wait to finally meet some of you guys on the streets of Philly. If you can't make it, make sure you keep an eye on the Outpost's Facebook page. Those attending will be posting pictures and videos there so that you can live vicariously through us. Going to be tons of fun, but fear not the Unions team is already working on the 2015 North American Union which will be talked about more during the Anniversary festivities.

Which is a natural segue to the Outpost's 17th Anniversary Celebration next month. A time where we eat, drink, and be merry! There are events, speeches, fun awards, and a whole lot more! We also recognize those who've made the Outpost a better place in the past year. Some members return from the void to help us celebrate as well. We always look forward to that. Vice Commander Tanya is hard at work planning this year's shindig so keep an eye out for the schedule and make sure to come around.

As for this month's issue, lots of good stuff. Cameron went to a Comic Con and lets us know about the experiences of a fanboy, Numbers gives you come insight into the proposed Stargate Room. Paulie pulls double duty this month giving you the low down on the Blue Report on Facebook and the On Screen Movie Review, and if the heat is getting to you, Robert Atkins cools you done with a recipe for Homemade Sorbet.

That's all I have for this month. Thanks for taking some time to read. Talk to you all next month.

Smith out.

MCM Belfast Comic Con Experiences [by Cameron Brown, Staff Writer]

I recently attended MCM Belfast Comic Con on 7-8 June. I attended both days and while I was stuck in line for about line in two hours in rain (Yes, U.K weather is always rain) I still had an utterly amazing time!

The first day was mainly me and my Girlfriend walking around the convention area for about three hours, checking out some of the utterly amazing cosplays and just browse around all the stalls with the nerdy stuff which we all want and crave but would end up making us bankrupt.

The people who hosted both the Red Dwarf Panel and the Cosplay Masquerade were really awesome guys, and to be honest neither me or my Girlfriend had any problems at the event. Everyone was just really laid back and just extremely awesome.

While the second day was just a tad more exciting, we started off by attending the Red Dwarf Panel which had Hattie Hayridge (Holly), Robert Llewellyn (Kryton) and Chris Barrie (Rimmer) which was an amazing experience and for any Red Dwarf fans they are beggining a new series in 2015 which I personally am overjoyed about!

After the panel I also got a quick selfie with Kryton and Rimmer and they are some of the mosty down to Earth people I've ever met, if you get the chance to go to a Con or Panel and they're there, I suggest you get there because they are not to be missed.

The last thing which we attended before heading home was the Cosplay Masquerade which was fantastic, it was basically an event were certain people who volunteered and then were interviewed about there cosplays, how they made them, how long it took and what materials they used. After that they were given the chance to show off their cosplays in front of a crowd and then be judged about their cosplays. The winners were; Amy from Sonic and a Character from Dark Souls II which were very awesome to say the least.

We didn't attend all of the events or meet all the special guests but the Red Dwarf panel was definitely one which I'm glad I didn't miss, there was everything from Anime, Gaming and of course TV shows!

If you get the chance to go to a Con, Just go, It is just fun for everything involved no matter what you prefer whether it be Anime, Gaming, Cosplay, Card battles or just meeting new people!

Stargate Project [by Mr Numbahs]

Who:
The Stargate Chatroom is a project under development by;
CL6 Numbahs
CL5 Fail
CL5 Robert Atkins
CL5 Darth Rezal
CL5 Soran.

What:
The main idea of the Stargate Room is to appease the fans of the Original Movie, 3 spin-off shows and the extra movies in the OTF Community.

Where:
We're hoping that with proper integration by the InDev team you can enter the Stargate room just like other rooms say Ten Forward,CCC and Kings Landing and it'll be awesome.

Why/When:
We've found word that there will be a Stargate Reboot. We're hoping to have the room done before then, so when new fans come around due to the reboot,we'll be the one place with a proper room and the OTF Community will grow as a whole.

How:
With awesome help from our awesome VC Tanya, we have narrowed down what we need and how to do it to accomplish this goal. We've dished out tasks like avatars and icons and such split between all of us so no one is over tasked and it's equal work for all.

In extra notes;
I'm not going to lie. This is a doozy of a task. However I feel with the dedication of the team and the overall intrest of the Stargate Universe put together we'll accomplish this and the OTF Community will really enjoy the outcome.

Blue Report on Facebook Recap [by Paulie, Facebook Writer]

The Outpost 10F Blue Report Facebook page featured some choice bits of sci-fi/fantasy and comic book information again for the month of June.

One June 3rd, it was revealed that Skype was working on developing prototype universal translator technology. That was followed by an article that our fearless leader found, in which The Hulk was described as a “more complex” character in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.” In yet another case of universes colliding, Stargate: Atlantis and Game Of Thrones star Jason Momoa was revealed to be cast as Aquaman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie.

The third installment of the Star Trek reboot movies was confirmed to be in theaters for the 50th anniversary of the franchise in 2016. That was followed by information on a Sonic The Hedgehog movie being produced by Sony. A new trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit the web a few days ago, with a clip that features none other than Guinan herself – Whoopi Goldberg.

The Star Wars franchise may be subject to a setback, as Harrison Ford, who reportedly has a prominent role in his return to the character of Han Solo, broke his leg on set. Surely they had wheelchairs or perhaps antigrav chairs in a galaxy far far away. If I were in charge of the script, I would certainly alter it that way, if and where possible. We at the Blue Report wish him a speedy recovery.

On Screen Movie Review: Transformers: Age of Extinction [by Paulie, Facebook Writer]

Transformers: Age Of Extinction is a typical, but still delightful, outing for Michael Bay. Full of chase scenes, explosions, cities destroyed, and weaving new life into the established Transformers mythos, the movie turned out excellent performances by Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, as well as the vocal performances of Peter Cullen – the one voice forever linked with Optimus Prime, and John Goodman. The writer of the film, Ehren Kruger, gave many the best comedic lines to John Goodman, but saved some for Wahlberg.

The movie starts out by once again rewriting Earth’s history – this time it’s prehistory. A crashed alien ship would destroy the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, and use the templates of life on the young planet to create new robotic life for themselves. Fast forward to present day. Sophia Myles, who once portrayed Madame de Pompadour opposite David Tennant in the 2006 Doctor Who episode “The Girl In The Fireplace” is now a scientist. She finds the remains of the crashed alien ship, deduces that everything we know about the annihilation of the dinosaurs is wrong, and delivers the line “I think history’s about to change.”

The actions moves to Texas, to introduce Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz, who play father and daughter. Wahlberg is a failed inventor, many times over, and Nicola is coming of age, graduating high school and tired of her father’s notion that the next big thing is around the corner.

She’s also hiding a secret. Little did they know, something big would be around the corner. Wahlberg is called in to clean out an abandoned movie theater, and finds an equally abandon truck cab, in really bad shape. Richard Riehle, who has had at least 2 outings in the Star Trek universe delivers a wonderfully meta line about today’s cinema being nothing more than remakes and sequels of old movies. With his skills, he manages to bring Optimus Prime back to life, but no sooner than he does that, a secret government agency steps in, led by Titus Welliver, from Voyager’s “Equinox”. It’s been four years since the Battle Of Chicago, and the Transformers – Autobots and Decepticons alike – are being hunted down, in a story that reveals a sign of the world we live in – a parallel to the war on terror. It’s a parallel complete with a deck of cards with likenesses of the “renegade” Transformers still “on the loose”.

Wahlberg’s character gains the upper hand with the help of Prime, and uses a government drone to open up the plot of the movie, shifting the action to Chicago, where he, his daughter, and a boyfriend his daughter’s been hiding, realize that Stanley Tucci has a tech empire that is now creating their own Transformers. Except there’s a problem. The prototype Galvatron is not all that he seems to be.

And speaking of robots that aren’t all they seem to be, who is Lockdown? Why is he the captain of a prison ship on a mission to capture Optimus Prime? And who created the Transformers in the first place? All these questions will apparently be answered in yet another sequel.
