The Romulan embassy at Outpost 10F was established in 2374, when it was discovered that the Dominion was secretly plotting against the Romulan Empire, with whom the Dominion had supposedly sign a non-aggression pact. Due to the local spatial properties which produce the Barzan wormhole, "gateways" can be opened to other parallel universes. Because of this, the Barzan system represents a major tactical nexus which is well worth the protection of all the powers of the "Alpha Quadrant" Alliance. This is why Outpost 10F is one of the few places in the galaxy at which ambassadors and military forces of the Federation, Klingon and Romulan governments are permanently stationed. Of these aforementioned places, Outpost 10F is the only one that is a space station.

Visitors to the embassy are allowed limited access for the purposes of guided tours, and may drop by the visitors center to learn more about Romulan history and culture. On rare occassions, V.I.P.s may also be lucky enough to be allowed a tour of the D'deridex, the flagship Romulan warbird which is stationed at Outpost 10F.
