The Navy of the Romulan Star Empire is the backbone of the Empire's might and sovreignty. It maintains to this day a proud tradition of service with honor, and played a major role in the victory of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers over foul invaders of the Dominion. Here is a short listing of major ships classes which can be found in our great navy.
Scout ships are medium/light vessels used primarily for reconaissance and scientific survey. Though they are not reccomended for use in heavy combat, they are nonetheless quite agile and can be refitted with heavier weapons for use as light escorts.
Forming the backbone of the Romulan fleet, the d'deridex class warbird is a massive and intimidating sight. More than a kilometer long with a mass in excess of 4.32 million metric tonnes, the stock design is armed with six disruptor cannons and two plasma torpedo launchers. Uprated versions may be even more heavily armed. The d'deridex warbird has served as a symbol of the Romulan Empire's might for many years, and will continue to for many years to come.
The Romulan "Shuttle" is actually more akin to the "Runabout" used for Starfleet operations. Typically, the shuttle is used for the transport of high-ranking naval personnel or government officials. The ship is lightly armed, and though it is capable of long range missions, is best used over short distances for tactical reasons.
One of the more recent additions to the Romulan fleet, the Valdore class warbirds were designed in response to complaints from certain high ranking Naval officials regarding the d'deridex class. Some claimed that the fleet had become innundated with "leviathans" and that this in turn disallowed a certain level of finesse when executing fleet tactics. The Valdore warbirds, while not as large as the d'deridex class, is still an impressively sized vessel, yet no less manouverable than its Starfleet and Klingon counterparts.
